It's only a sweet pea

Or is it?
I blame it on my garden
or on my lack on insight since we were on vacation.
But for whatever reason my daughter and cousins harvested what seemed to be a
innocent sweet pea from behind our Colorado cabin:

Almost everyone of our party tried one.
Unfortunately my daughter who was the smallest of the group ate a lot.
This lead to my daughter's continuous vomiting and lethargy.
We spent the remainder of the day in Estes Park Emergency Room.

Turns out this plant is poisonous.
My little girl knows now to not eat anything except from our garden or grocery store.
Somehow our yearly trips to Estes always starts off rough.

My girl is okay. The Estes Park ER staff was fabulous. She was better within 8 hours, and the next day you would never had known she was sick.

This sweet girl's momma is something special.
She's got a heart of gold.
She loves God and earnestly seeks to be obedient to His word more than most people I know.
This sweet one is blessed to be born in this home.

Sunflower mini photo shoots.
The field is starting to grow.
I foresee the third week in August the fields will be ready.
I have only a few slots left.

Here's the scoop:
Sunflower mini photo shoot
$40 for 30 minute session
Includes complimentary 8 x 10.
6 people or less.
Around the 3rd week in August.
Fields are in between Lawrence, KS and Tonganoxie, KS.

Wet works

The continuous rain didn't dampen our Fourth of July festivities.





Our family crew sat in the garage and waited for the rain to slow down and then
BOOM, the fireworks showed their splendor.


I was raised going to fireworks displays where fireworks were considered illegal.
It amazes me every year especially in my neighborhood how much people will spend
on the big professional fireworks.


Around 10:30 in the evening the rain had stopped and our neighborhood was one fireworks display in the sky. I literally turned a full 360 to see all the displays around me. AMAZING!

I have to add my favorite conversation of the weekend with a recent high school grad.....
me: "So what college are you going to?"
recent grad: "Iowa State"
me: "Is that the school of the hawkeyes?"
hubby: "No that's University of Iowa."
recent grad: Oh, our school has 'hot guys'!"
Puzzled, I look at the recent grad.
Recent grad realizes I didn't say 'hot guys' and replies with hand over mouth,
"I'm so embarrassed."
I then translate in my head what was currently said, 'hawkeyes' = 'hot guys.'
Laughter ensues.

Got a new do

A few summers ago we had the brilliant idea to shave our dog, Jetta.
It cooled her down during the hot summer days.
And it provided house keeping relief for me,
since it dramatically reduced the doggie hair clumps in my home.






Every summer we say we should have done it sooner.
Here's Jetta now sporting her new look:





I think it makes her look younger :)
