New smile

My boy has been wanting to lose his teeth what seems like forever.
Last summer he had three somewhat loose teeth.
But nothing came of it until this weekend.

First lost tooth.
Another milestone accomplished.

SEVEN

My boy turned seven today.
That's him at his birthday party.
His wet, mud splattered seven year old self.

For this year's party, I went back to the basics.
A water tub and water sprayers.

I need to remind myself that kids really don't need expensive stuff to have fun.
(The water sprayers are from Dollar Tree, one buck. You can't go wrong.)

They found a mud puddle, or should I say they made a mud puddle.

Sweet childhood fun.
My son- I hope you remember your childhood with fond memories of family and friends.
And with a security that your family loves you, but more importantly that God loves you.

First Day of School

My son started his first day of 1st grade today.
It went a lot easier than last year.
First off my son has his fabulous teacher from last year.
She moved up a grade, and I am so happy!
Second, he is in the same classroom.
Familiarity is a wonderful thing for my son.
Third, mommy's anxiety (that's me) was lessoned.
Plus it didn't help that I attended the stalker mom brunch.
Numerous moms ate yummy pasteries as we watched recess from across the street.

My heart is always torn, and I think it will always be.
Letting go is hard.
I'm not looking forward to when this cute little guy goes to college.

Poolside

This has been my life the last couple weeks.
Swimming lessons and poolside
or should I say in the pool with my kiddos.
6 out of 7 days a week.
Now that's summer.

Birthday boy

My boy is now 6!
We celebrated his big day bowling.

If you live near University of Kansas,
I would totally recommend having a bowling party at the Jaybowl.
For a little over $55, 7 kiddos bowled a round, had bowling shoes provided,
received a 10 oz drink and party bag filled with goodies,
and we celebrated in the party room.

So much fun!

Here's the crew!

Hope you enjoyed your special day! - mom

I am so proud of him. - Jen

Field Trip

Yesterday, I was able to go with my son and his class to a field trip to Deanna Rose Farmstead. I felt blessed to be able to spend my day with my son and his friends.
Fun times, cherished memories.

I am so looking forward to summer break.
I have missed my little guy.

Biking on the wild side

My boy
He's fun, silly and outgoing at home,
But put him in a social situation.
And the caution signs come up.

On his bike.
He's adventurous and willing to take risks.

My boy has been into "popping wheelies."

One of those wheelie moves landed him on his bum with the tires up in the air.

His response? "Did you see that? That was totally awesome!" in a California surfer dude voice.

Side note for my sister: I know, I know... it's not safe riding a bike without shoes and a helmet.

Practice makes perfect

My son is learning that practice leads to proficiency.
bike riding
reading
rollerskating
and now jump roping.

My little guy spent most of the afternoon until right before bed practicing his new found skill. It's fun to see his joy when he has mastered a skill.

Remember a few weeks ago when my son was practicing roller skating for a class party. Well the party was a success. Initially half the kindergartners were on their bums at any given moment, but by the end of the party most were upright :) My little guy was one of the last ones in his sneakers. He wanted to keep practicing rollerskating.

five and a half

My boy has been counting down the days until he will be officially 5 1/2. Well today was the day. He was so excited. Coincidentally his class had a field trip today to see the play "Babes in Toyland." When my boy came home today, I asked him about it. He said, "Mom, the play wasn't really a play. It was just a show. We didn't get to play." He looked disappointed.

Here are my favorite phrases that my little guy currently says often :)
"Really? Sweeeeeet!"
"You're kidding me. That's awesome!"

Sporting a new look

My little guy
got his first
pair of glasses.
I will have
to say
he is looking
pretty cute and handsome.

He is such a thoughtful, smart guy.
I'm so proud of him. I love him so. - Jen (mom)

My five year old

Ever since he turned 5 this June, he has made sure everyone know that he is "five."

He has a special way of warming my heart. He is such a gentle spirit, full of laughter.

My heart overflows with love for this kid.
